How do I know if I should fix my AC or buy a new one?
Anytime the repair costs are at least 25% of a new unit you should consider replacing the unit. As a general rule, if the unit is 10 years old and you have not replaced any parts then you should opt for a new unit. This first repair is just the start of the repair and breakdown cycle. You are better off saving the future repair dollars now and investing them in the new air conditioner. If you have a 10 year old unit that you have already made a lot of repairs to then it may be better to just repair the unit since many of the parts have already been changed.
