How do I replace my sink drain?

After getting the correct size replacement drain (usually 1-1/2″) you will place an empty bucket underneath the area you are working to collect any water that leaks out of the drain when you disconnect it. When the old drain is removed you will put in the replacement drain making sure to tighten the plastic nuts “hand tight”. Over tightening can crack the drain and cause future leakage. After the drain is in place, plug the sink and fill to the top. Then release the plug and look underneath for any water leakage. If there is leakage, slightly tighten the connections more and retest.
