My water heater is leaking, what do I do?

The first step is to determine where the water is coming from. If your water heater is leaking from below (the storage tank leaking) there is no fix. You must replace the water heater. If the relief valve is leaking you should turn the temperature down on the water heater and try to “reseat” the relief valve. Sometimes they will not reset and need to be changed. Sometimes other appliances, the furnace, humidifier, backed up drain, etc. are nearby and give the impression that the water heater is leaking. That is why it is important to determine where the leak is coming from.
