What Can I Do To Alleviate Seasonal Allergies?

Even though you can’t always see them, the particles floating through the air inside your home can really give you fits. This is especially true if you suffer from seasonal allergies and we’re smack dab in the middle of the high season for that. You’ll be happy to know however, that you can fight back against coughing, itching and sneezing and not have to grab for yet another tissue as long as you’ve got the right filters in your HVAC system.

There are four main options for improving the air quality in your home:

Throwaway Filters – These are the standard, big box, one-inch, three dollar filters. They do very little for indoor air quality and must be replaced, depending on the conditions in your home, about once every two months.  The perks? They protect your furnace at a low price.

Solid Media Filters – These filters are also disposable, but they catch more dust, dander and allergens. Some are even HEPA certified. Most solid media filters only need to be replaced once every six months, while some can even last for up to a year.

Electronic Filters – Electronic filters provide the best indoor air quality filtration, and they’re reusable. They are more expensive at the outset, but slightly reduce heating bills.  They only have to be bought once, saving money over the long run. They do, however, need to be cleaned once a month to maintain proper functionality.

UV Light – UV systems send ultraviolet light into the ductwork and kill anything and everything that might be lurking in your air.
