April showers have brought May flowers and with the end of Spring comes the official end of heating season. We certainly had some chilly days here in May, but the weather has consistently started to warm up and we are excited for Summer! As we tune-up your central air, make sure you take the proper precautions with your furnace and other heating equipment»
Change Out Filters
Cheaper air filters need to be changed every 2-3 months and if you started heating your home in November and stopped in May, that means you are due for another change. Take care of it now because you might forget at the start of next season. Do just as you did the last time. Take the old filter out of the furnace, bring it to the store with you, and buy the same exact one. Once you get home, install it and get ready to get the air conditioner up and running.
Test It
Even though you are only deciding to shut off your unit now, you have probably only been using it sparingly over the past few weeks. This lack of use might have thrown something out of place and you don’t want to wait for a cold day next year to have it fixed. Give your furnace a test run and be sure to call Levine & Sons if you see or hear anything out of place.
Clean It Up
Vacuuming and cleaning around your furnace throughout the summer is a good idea to keep it fresh this winter. Any amount of dust or debris can throw off the unit and you want to eliminate risk factors. Even take it apart one time over the summer and give it a quick clean.
Look Into Prices
Most major furnace brands will tell you that a unit has about 10-15 good years in it and you want to trust their advice. Once your furnace starts to approach that age, you want to start keeping an eye out for hot prices on the market. Most manufacturers will offer specials in the springtime so make sure you are on the lookout!
