“Rubber ducky, you’re the one. You make bathtime so much fun!” You’ve probably heard that song at some point in your life, right? Well, bathtime can take a quick turn for the worse if you’re not careful. In honor of National Rubber Ducky Day, we’ve put some essential safety tips together below:
- Wait until your baby is able to sit upright on their own before bathing them in the bathtub. Until then, it’s safer to use a baby tub in the kitchen or bathroom sink.
- Make sure you check the temperature of the water before placing your baby in. You’d be surprised at how hot the water can get that comes out of the faucet. Remember, your toddler’s skin may be more sensitive than yours so we recommend staying away from hot water altogether.
- Place non-slip mats or tiles in the tub to prevent slips and falls. We also suggest securing loose corners on throw rugs and bath mats to avoid the risk of tripping.
- Keep all hazardous objects out of your child’s reach. This includes things like medicines and hygiene products as well as toothpaste and mouthwash.
- NEVER leave your toddler in the bathroom or bathtub unattended.
- Be careful which toys you bring into the tub. Toys that aren’t water safe can be dangerous – this goes for all battery operated toys as well.
- Don’t hang onto toys that can trap or squirt water for too long. Mold could be growing inside which is dangerous to breathe in.
