  1. Boil Water – water straight from lakes or rivers could hold harmful bacteria that could potentionaly make you sick. The heat from boiled water will kill any harmful bacteria in your water.
  2. Avoid Cross Contamination – when preparing food, use different knifes for different foods. Cross contamination is when particles from one type of food get into a different type of food. Mixing the two types could potentionally put harmful bacteria into foods which you would not cook. Using different knives to cut different foods helps to avoid cross contamination.
  3. Keep foods covered as much as possible – While camping, you are surrounded by many bugs. Insects are attracted to your food and if they can get to the food, they could contaminate the food. Using plastic wrap, wax paper, or other materials to cover your food will help keep the bugs away.
  4. Cleanliness – While camping it is very important to clean your hands often with hand sanitizer, especially before bathroom breaks and preparing food. This will help prevent harmful bacteria from gaining easy access into our

body. Avoid using deodorants, perfumes, and colognes because they attract wildlife and insects. Every night clean yourself with wet wipes under the arms, neck, feet and groin areas.
