Its spooking season and your plumbing might be trying to get in on the fun. There are some things you can do to prepare and not get haunted, but the plumbing in your home might have other plans. Here are a few mistakes to avoid getting spooked by your plumbing:
Grease Down the Drain
Grease is pretty much the last thing you would ever want down your drain. It goes down as a liquid and when it sits in the drain, it starts to harden and cause blockages. It is kind of like what happens to grease in your blood vessels (wink wink). This will slowly build up over time and cause blockages that will have you paying for a drain cleaning!
Running an Old Water Heater
Much like your HVAC systems, age is very important when it comes to efficiency. New models are constantly being updated and upgraded to minimize month to month costs. Tankless water heaters are great for the environment, they take up less space and their on demand heating doesn’t let anything go to waste! Consider an upgrade if your water heater is more than 15 years old.
Ignoring the Warning Signs
Plumbing speaks sometimes and it is important that we all listen up! If you hear a rattling, banging or knocking, that means you have some issues. Your hammer might be malfunctioning, the pipes might not be secured or your water heater might have sediment built up on the bottom. Bottom line here is, when your plumbing talks, you should listen!
