Plumbing often goes unnoticed when it is in fine, working order. But when a problem does occur, it’s minutes of chaos until you can stop the bleeding. Make that chaos a little bit more controlled with some help from your friends at Levine & Sons:
Pipe Burst
While these are not as common in the Summer months, they always need to be in the back of your mind. A small little crack in a pipe can turn into a massive leak if enough water pressure is applied and they could strike at any minute. If a leak in your home worsens, here is what you should do:
- Take a towel and try to see if you can plug up or tie off the leak at the source.
- Have a family member run to shut down the water at the main shutoff valve.
- Move all furniture and possessions off the floor where the leak occurred.

Clogged Drain
Clogged drains can occur in your sink, shower, toilet, washing machine or dishwasher and they all vary in severity. Some large clogs can lead to floods if you aren’t careful and you don’t want to pay for those restoration costs. If you notice slow moving water or gurgling noises in your drain, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
Overflowing Toilet
Your toilet can clog or the flapper can malfunction which will cause a flush to continue until the water is all over the floor. The first rule of thumb when you see that water start to rise is reach for the shutoff valve. It will be a silver pipe on the back or side of your toilet and you simply have to turn the knob into the off position.
These emergencies might be a big deal to someone who hasn’t seen them before, but that is not us! Levine & Sons has been helping people in the Metro Detroit area with their plumbing emergencies since 1927 and we have seen it all!
