Plumbing repairs are necessary in millions of American homes, but often times these repairs can be done without professional help. We recommend calling Levine & Sons if you feel uncomfortable, but why not give these a shot before you hit the panic button?
Toilet Clog (Sometimes)
- When your toilet is clogged, the first solution is almost always the plunger. Make sure you know how to use one and alleviate the issue quickly.
- Liquid dish soap can go down the drain and it is great for breaking up dirt clogs in the drain.
- Drano is okay to use if this is your first or second clog. For more consistently clogging drains, you’ll want to call in a Levine & Sons professional to snake the drain.
Pipe Insulation
Now that the weather is starting to cool off and the Michigan chill is coming, you want to turn your focus onto your pipes. Insulating them is going to help efficiency, limit risk of freezing, and make this Winter much more relaxing for you! Check out our blog for more insulation tips 🙂
Faucet Repairs (Some Experience Required)
Step 1: Shut down your water supply.
Step 2: Detach the handle from the main faucet body. Some have a disc or button over the screw, once you remove it, simply undo the screw and twist handle off.
Step 3: Use slip-joint pliers to remove the packing nut.
Step 4: Twist out the stem by turning it in the same direction you would turn your faucet.
Step 5: Remove hardware, including the rubber washer and replace it if it is frayed. This is often times the cause of leaks.
If you fail at these repairs, or if your problem isn’t on the list, it is time to call in the big guns. Here at Levine & Sons, we have been repairing toilets, sinks, faucets, drains and showers since 1927 and we have literally seen everything that could have been thrown at us.
