Temperatures here in Southfield, Michigan have not plummeted below freezing yet, but that time is coming. Thanksgiving is in two weeks and once we get into December, freezing temperatures are going to become a lot more common. The best time to prepare is now and if you wait too long, you’ll be cleaning up a mess that easily could have been avoided:

Insulate Your Pipes

Drip Your Faucet

If you have a cabin in the Upper Peninsula or anywhere in Michigan, it is important to maintain it in between your visits. Temperatures are already going below freezing and excess water left in pipes can freeze rather quickly. But if you keep a slow, steady drip in your faucet, it will take longer for them to freeze. Turn the faucet on to a steady drip and not a flow and you should be able to avoid pressure buildup!

Bring in the Heat

You want to make sure the plumbing under your sink is getting the same kind of heat as the rest of your house. When you leave the cabinets closed, you’re shutting those pipes off to that heat and it can hasten the freezing process. By simply opening those cabinets once per day, you’ll let the heat in and raise temperatures under the sink to a comfortable level.

Here at Levine & Sons, we want all of our clients to be ready for the Winter and any possible emergencies that might come with it. We will help you prepare your HVAC and plumbing systems for the cold and we are available now for appointments.
