Can you believe it? November is here and our amazing staff of technicians are working hard to get the Metro Detroit area ready for winter. Be sure to be aware of these common mistakes and avoid them at all costs:
Reckless With Grease
During the Thanksgiving preparation, there is a lot of things to do. You need to decorate, clean, prepare the food and then clean it all up once everyone is stuffed. We think you have the first three handled, but it is the cleaning up part that we want to talk to you about. Keep the following items out of your drain at all costs:
- Chicken/ Turkey Bones
- Grease
- Starchy Foods
- Pasta
Not Warning Your Guests
The holidays bring more and more guests into the house and that also means more and more for the bathroom. If you have up to date fixtures and drainage, you should be fine, but we all know this isn’t always the case. Be sure to warn your guests about the quirks in your plumbing and remind them not to flush any napkins or wipes down the drain!
Pipes Without a Coat
It is not necessarily the dead of winter, but temperatures in Southfield can get below freezing in November and that could mean trouble for your pipes. Even if water is not freezing, it will still take longer to heat up which costs you money. Use these steps to insulate your pipes, avoid freezing and save money:
- Go to the hardware store and purchase foam rubber insulation.
- Pickup zip ties and scissors if you need them.
- Face the open end of the insulation facing the sky and make sure it is secured around your exposed pipe.
- Tie the zip ties every 5-7 feet to secure the insulation to the pipe.
